Sol Duc Falls and Forest Photography

Sol Duc is one of the places in Olympic National Park where the walk is as rewarding as the destination. The trail winds through dense temperate rain forest, past moss-covered trees, ferns, small creeks, and flowing water before reaching Sol Duc Falls. I’ve returned to photograph both the falls and the quieter scenes around them—the patterns of water over rock, filtered forest light, intimate fern studies, and the deep greens of the surrounding woods. Soft overcast conditions are especially good here, bringing out the texture and color without overwhelming the scene. This collection includes photographs of Sol Duc Falls, the Sol Duc River, forest trails, creeks, ferns, and other details from the surrounding Olympic Peninsula forest.
