The Volunteer Park Conservatory in Seattle is where some of my earliest flower photography was made, and these images reach back to the beginning of a floral archive I’ve continued building for many years.
The conservatory is especially rewarding on Seattle’s gray and rainy days, when the glasshouse fills with soft, diffused light. Tropical foliage, orchids, bromeliads, palms, succulents, and other unusual plants offer endless opportunities for close studies of color, form, texture, and shallow depth of field.
This collection includes both those earlier photographs and later visits as my approach to flower photography evolved toward softer light, selective focus, and more atmospheric compositions. Fine-art prints are available in a variety of sizes and finishes.
