Roses are one of the subjects I return to every summer, especially at the Woodland Park Rose Garden in Seattle when the garden reaches its peak in June and early July. The variety of color, shape, and texture gives me endless opportunities to work with soft natural light, selective focus, and shallow depth of field.
I’m less interested in simply documenting a perfect bloom than in finding the mood around it—the way petals catch evening light, how neighboring flowers dissolve into color, and how a fast prime lens can turn a busy garden into something quiet and intimate.
This collection includes classic roses, unusual varieties, close details, and softer painterly studies made over many years. Fine-art prints are available in a variety of sizes and finishes.
