Rhododendrons and azaleas are one of the great spring displays of the Pacific Northwest, filling Seattle gardens with layers of color from deep reds and magentas to softer pinks, whites, and purples.
I’m especially drawn to photographing them in soft natural light with shallow depth of field, using selective focus to simplify the dense blossoms and foliage into quieter, more painterly compositions. Some images concentrate on a single bloom or cluster, while others use surrounding color and garden structure to create atmosphere.
This collection brings together rhododendron and azalea photographs made around Seattle and the Pacific Northwest over many spring seasons. Fine-art prints are available in a variety of sizes and finishes. If you are looking for a particular color, variety, or composition that you don’t see here, please ask—I may have it in the archive.
