These field sessions are small, quiet gatherings for photographers who want to slow down and learn how to notice. We work in ordinary places, paying attention to how light, distance, and planes of focus shape a photograph — skills you can carry everywhere, long after the session ends.
This isn’t a location tour or a trophy-shot workshop. We won’t chase iconic views or set up tripods at sunrise.
Instead, we walk, pause, and practice seeing — how background, light, depth, and quiet subjects interact in ways most people walk past.
Many participants leave realizing they’ll never look at a park, a street, or even a grocery store the same way again.
These sessions repeat with the seasons each year.
Each session is limited to a few participants and lasts about three quiet hours. If one of these moments in the year speaks to you, send a note.
“I learned more about where to stand and when to wait for light in a few hours than I had in years of shooting on my own.”
— Chuck
“The way Mike explains light and restraint changed how I approach every photograph I make.”
— Raina
“A few hours in the field with Mike was more valuable than an entire photography course. I came away seeing places differently.”
— Rachel
